Our Sydney horticulture team became one with the wildlife at Taronga Zoo Sydney, undertaking an important work to clean up the Squirrel Monkeys enclosure which they share with the water hens.

Marsupial were contracted by the Zoo to remove the overgrowth of plants and reeds around hens home. The initial few days were spent cutting back the vegetation on the water’s edge before suiting up in waders to prune the nesting area in the water.

Working in the cold water, the team pruned back the reeds to 200mm – the perfect length before they shoot in the springtime – carrying each lot of cuttings over to the water’s edge to ensure debris didn’t float over to the monkey’s island.

The team worked discreetly and quietly to avoid frightening the animals, enjoying the experience and providing the animals with a safe and secure home.
